The followers of Jesus had embraced the hope of a confident coming of the Kingdom. His death shattered that vision and they had to live into a story of struggle in a world of empire and power, not so unlike our own. Our religious response is that rising is always possible, in every spring, and that, like the disciples, we already have what we need to find redemption.
