It’s Pi(e) Day!

The number π is a mathematical constant that is the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter, approximately equal to 3.14159.

March 14th or 3/14 is called Pi Day! Pi Day is an annual celebration of the mathematical constant π (pi). Pi Day is observed on March 14 (the 3rd month) since 3, 1, and 4 are the first three significant figures of π. It was founded in 1988 by Larry Shaw, an employee of the San Francisco science museum, the Exploratorium. Celebrations often involve eating pie or holding pi recitation competitions.

We’re celebrating a week early, since Vespers is on the date closest to 3/14…so bring your favorite type of pie to share! Sweet, savory, both – whatever you like best!
