[CARE] Housing Options: More Choices Than You Think

Join Mount Pleasant Village and the Silver Souls to equip yourself with more knowledge and understanding for your later years. Last March, the two groups collaborated on “Preparing to Grow Older Successfully,” a three-part program addressing issues of concern to those of us in our older years, those approaching retirement, and caregivers. Two of those programs were held in early March, but the third, on housing options, was postponed because of the coronavirus.

This session has now been rescheduled, on Zoom, for November 8, 1:00 to 3:00 pm. There is a $10 charge for participating in this session. The 15 people who already paid for this session in March should register using the “Pre-paid” option.

Dixcy Bosley-Smith, a case manager for Iona Senior Services, will discuss the options available for aging in your home, co-housing, cooperative living, multigenerational living, independent and assisted living and nursing homes. She will discuss how to assess the locally available options, their costs, and eligibility for government support. A former Mount Pleasant resident, Dixcy is a geriatric nurse care manager and a nurse-practitioner at Iona Senior Services. She conceived and spoke at Iona’s End-of-Life Expo. She has been a hospice nurse and refers to herself as an “End of Life Activist.” She is a founding staff member of Joseph’s House, a member of the Church of the Saviour, and has been a member of the board of Potter’s House and a nurse at Christ House.
