The All Souls Ministerial Search Committee is encouraging all congregational leaders, members, and friends to participate in the upcoming “Beyond Categorical Thinking” workshop. See Co-Chair T Vatnick’s video invitation.

The workshop will be online only, with two 90-minute sessions (lunch and bio breaks are included in the time block).

After registering, a survey and video will be sent to you prior to the Workshop.

The Beyond Categorical Thinking program is designed to promote inclusive thinking and help prevent unfair discrimination in the search process for a new minister.
In the workshop, All Souls members will:

• Consider the hopes, expectations, and concerns they have for a new minister
• Learn more about the ministerial search process, and
• Explore how thinking categorically about people sometimes interferes with choosing the best candidate.

The Workshop will be facilitated by Carol Carter Walker (she, her) who has been a Unitarian Universalist (UU) since 1987 when she became a charter member of Sojourner Truth UU Congregation in Washington, DC. She is a member of Paint Branch Unitarian Universalist Church in Adelphi, MD and is a trained UUA facilitator of the BCT program.

About Carol Carter Walker:

Carol Carter Walker joined Paint Branch UU Church in Adelphi, MD in 2002. She also belongs to Black Lives of Unitarian Universalism, the Church of the Larger Fellowship, and Diverse and Revolutionary UU Multicultural Ministries (DRUUMM).

At Paint Branch, she currently serves as Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees, Treasurer, member at large on the leadership advisory council of the Diversity/Anti-Racism Transformation Team; member of the Racial Climate Leadership Team, member of the Faith Engagement Team, and a Worship Associate.

Carol is currently co-chair of the Central East Region’s Chalice Lighter [Grants] Program Committee; facilitator for the UUA Beyond Categorical Thinking Programs; Board Secretary, Sister SoUUrce; and a member of the Council of Elders in the Black Lives of UU. She served two terms as an elected member of the UUA Commission on Social Witness. She has attended and often represented Paint Branch at 27 UU General Assemblies.

She was an appointed member of Metro’s Riders Advisory Council from 2008 to 2014, including serving as Chair in 2014. She also served as President of the Fort Totten Tenant Association from 2012 to 2015. She was a Board Member of the UU Affordable Housing Corporation. She has been an active volunteer in several organizations since her 2006 retirement as a senior manager in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
