But Whyyyy???
Have you ever opened the church newsletter and couldn’t find what you were looking for? Or felt overwhelmed by the opportunities and requests for your attention and time? This redesign attempts to address that concern, among other things, while also giving balanced time in our main communications vehicle to all the various groups and activities that make up the rich life of the All Souls congregation.
We ask that you try the new design on for size for a few weeks and then send us your feedback.
SECTION 1 – In the Spotlight
- We have a top menu for quick links to frequently-visited areas of our website.
- The weekly service info is still at the top with quick links to the zoom and the online order of service.
- We have also created a link here for parents and youth to quickly find what is happening in RE this week. The
- Three featured stories/events/ announcements with blurbs and call to action button
SECTION 2 – Chronological Events and Deadlines
- Coming Soon – for events or deadlines within 2 weeks.
- Planning Ahead – for events up to a month out
- On the Horizon – for events more than a month out that may require longer-term planning to participate
- Items listed in these sections will typically link out to more information and details, including RSVP links. Some may also feature an image to draw more attention.
- These areas are designed to be skimmed and the further down into the newsletter you go, you can be assured the items are further out on the calendar, so if you don’t have capacity to think about it this week, you don’t have to!
SECTION 3 – Community Care
- This section will be included, when the care team provides info, to supplement the pulpit announcements related to congregational care.
SECTION 4 – Quick Links
- This section will remain from the original design, as many helpful links are included, as well as the church’s mission statement, Sunday covenant, and helpful links for lay leaders to reserve space and promote events and announcements.
Overall Benefits
- Provides key content at top and organizes the rest chronologically.
- More items get included and before email clients cut off the message and hides it beneath a “Read Full Message” link
- Easier to maintain content across website and eNews (reduce mismatch of content)
- Allows people who are experiencing overwhelm in life and/or at church to focus on the spotlight items and only take in the rest as they are able to process it.
