UPDATE October 25 – The Migrant Solidarity Team is thankful for the many All Souls members who have come forward with cash, electronic devices, furniture, rugs, dishware, a car, connections, and invaluable expertise to support the extended Karimi family of refugees from Afghanistan. Most recently, a couple and a third congregant, who all prefer anonymity, provided enough money to buy a used Honda for Mukhtar Karimi’s family, the most recent arrivals. Mukhtar needed a car to land a full-time job as a senior field technician with Engineering Consulting Services, operating from ECS’s office in Chantilly, Va.
He started work October 23!
His wife, Muska, meanwhile, is working five hours a day at TJ Maxx, located within walking distance of their apartment in Falls Church. The schedule allows Muska to be home when their three children return from school. She has mastered enough language training to have passed the knowledge portion of the Virginia driver’s test in English.
September 5 – Mohammad Mukhtar Karimi, whose Afghan family has resettled in Fall Church with help from the All Souls Migrant Solidarity Team, recently passed a field-testing technician exam offered online by the American Concrete Institute. He worked in civil engineering in Afghanistan and has been told he stands a good chance of a construction-related job. But the job requires that he have a vehicle to take him to work sites. If you have an old car in good running condition, it would really help Mukhtar and his family of five get on their feet. We can’t offer tax advice, but we’re exploring whether such a donation qualifies for a deduction.
