On March 23 after service in Reeb Hall, Silver Souls invites you to celebrate the legacies of David Bauer and Rev. James Reeb, who served in ways we don’t want to forget.
Join David Bauer’s wife Judith, who will help us honor a man remembered by many of us as the great human he was. Judith will tell the story of his commitment and advocacy for accessible features in our building. His efforts led to our building’s paved and stepless pathway to the entrance off the patio, and to the addition of the Bauer elevator that provides access to all three floors of the church.
Next, head toward the seating facing the screen in Reeb Hall where Reeb Voting Rights Project member Holly Reckord will narrate the story of Rev. Reeb through slides prepared by the Project. James Reeb served as an assistant minister at All Souls, and later answered the call of Dr. King to defend voting rights in Selma, Alabama. His murder in Selma, as he walked with two other UU ministers, galvanized the nation and inspired the 1965 Civil Rights Act. His sacrifice inspired All Souls minister Rev. Duncan Howlett to write a book about him: No Greater Love: The James Reeb Story.
Your hosts, Silver Souls, will provide refreshments.
