Interested in Justice-making Philanthropic Work? The Beckner Committee Would Love to Hear From You!

The All Souls’ Beckner Advancement Fund Committee would like to engage with church members interested in learning more about the Fund and considering possible committee membership in the short or longer term.

The Beckner Advancement Fund is a social justice philanthropic initiative established by members Earl and Meta Beckner in 1973 to create a more collaborative, attractive, and forward-looking community that fosters human rights and dignity and enhances the influence of All Souls in the Washington metropolitan area. The Beckner Fund Committee is guided by a vision of DC where all residents have the opportunities and resources they need to live with dignity and share in the prosperity and vibrancy of our Nation’s Capital. In the most recent church year, the Fund approved more than $84,000 in grants to internal All Souls’ ministries and nonprofits that serve the communities surrounding the church, and the District more broadly.

We welcome candidates with a passion for philanthropy, equity and justice, and we are committed to maintaining a diverse mix of identities, backgrounds, and experiences on the committee. While not a requirement, we are particularly interested in candidates with backgrounds in finance, and/or expertise in measuring the qualitative and quantitative impacts of social change work. We also look for new members with  paid or volunteer experience/expertise that could enhance the work of the committee, in areas such as social media, training and facilitation, and/or community outreach.

We would love to hear from you if you would like to learn more about the committee without the immediate objective of an application submission. Please feel free to be in touch with Ruth Goins, who staffs the committee, and she will connect you with a current member for follow up.
