2024 Nobel Peace Prize: Why it Matters to All Souls Church

  • Post category:News

On December, 10, 2024, the Nobel Committee will award the Nobel Peace Prize for 2024 to the Japanese organisation Nihon Hidankyo. This grassroots movement of atomic bomb survivors from Hiroshima and Nagasaki, also known as Hibakusha, is receiving the Peace Prize for its efforts to achieve a world free of nuclear weapons and for demonstrating through witness and testimony that nuclear weapons must never be used again.

Many of the Atomic Bomb survivors hosted at All Souls by the Heiwa Peace Project have been affiliated with Nihon Hidankyo. As Nihon Hidankyo receives the Nobel Peace Prize, we also recall that All Souls Church was represented on the  American delegation to Nihon Hidankyo’s global conference in 2010 with support from our partner the Hiroshima Nagasaki Peace Committee.  Heiwa Peace Project partners and friends Peter Kuznick and Joe Gerson will attend the conferral of the Peace Prize in Oslo

We plan to organize a briefing at All Souls in the New Year.

All Souls stewardship of the Hiroshima Children’s Drawings amplifies but one of the ways our congregation can further activities creating peace, reducing war, and fostering global human flourishing.
