Join The Reeb Project in a Week-Long Festival of Voting Rights Actions
July 17, 2024, marks the 4th anniversary of the passing of Rep. John Lewis. To celebrate his extraordinary life and work, let’s get into Good Trouble – a whole Week of Good Trouble!
During this decisive year for democracy, The Reeb Project is joining a coalition of civil, religious and community groups across the country to commemorate John Lewis’ legacy – and continue his fight to extend and protect the vote for all people.
Reeb is marking John Lewis’ many contributions with a full week of voting rights actions. We are providing four ways you can get involved. And we ask you to do at least one!
July 17 – John Lewis Day of Commemoration and Action (5:30-8:30 PM)
As planned, we will be joining with a coalition of groups nationwide to kick off the campaign to pass critical voting rights legislation in the new Congress – John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, Freedom to Vote Act, Native Americans Voting Rights Act, and Washington DC Admission Act!
Two Meet-Up Options (to suit your schedule):
- At 4:45pm at Metropolitan AME Church, 1518 M St NW with Pablo DeJesus of UUSJ, and then process 9 blocks with an interfaith group to the main event at The Wilson Building.
- Between 5:30 and 6:00 PM at the John A. Wilson Building, 1st Floor, 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue NW and connect with other members of All Souls and the Reeb Team.
You will have a chance to sign the DC statehood petition during the rally. Please sign up in advance.
July 18 – Phone Banking (6-7 PM)
Join phone banking in partnership with the Florida organization Yes to 4 to inform voters of a ballot measure to protect reproductive rights in Florida. Newcomers to phone banking are welcome and encouraged! Please sign up in advance.
July 21 – Postcarding Party After Church
We will be post-carding together after church to alert 969,000 registered Black women voters in Florida to the urgency of voting early this fall. Florida has abolished permanent vote-by-mail, established strict photo ID requirements, and undermined the voting rights of returning citizens who have served their jail terms. Please sign up in advance.
July 23 – Phone Banking (6-8PM)
Please join us for a phone banking session with the Center for Common Ground. We are calling Black voters in North Carolina, following-up on our latest postcards, encouraging the people of Mecklenburg County to vote, providing resources that make it easy to check where they are registered, and ask them to get their friends and family involved. Newcomers to phone banking are welcome and encouraged! Please sign up in advance.
Let’s honor the legacy of John Lewis – and take action – with a Week of Good Trouble!
