On August 6, we will solemnly mark 80 years since the dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan. From that distant tragedy a lasting connection between All Souls Church and Hiroshima was created by the power of children’s artwork to create hope in the midst of despair. We know this story and its message as the Hiroshima Children’s Drawings.
There are three 3 important events we are co-sponsoring this year.
Sunday, August 3 service: All Souls will include its commemoration as part of the service and the Heiwa Peace Project will organize a special session for the “Find your Adventure” theme.
Tuesday, August 5, 6 pm: Hiroshima Nagasaki Peace Committee Annual Vigil at the Japanese American Memorial (near Union Station and the Capitol). More details to come.
Wednesday, August 6, 6 pm: Interfaith Nuclear Prayer Day Vigil at the United Methodist Building on Capitol Hill. Information and registration link for this event is now live: 🔗 [registration link here]
Please join members of the All Souls Heiwa Peace Project and our partners to mark this solemn occasion and to renew our commitment to work for a world free of nuclear arms and other weapons of mass destruction.
