Keith earned a doctorate in the history and performance of choral music from the University of Colorado, a masters from the University of Illinois, and a bachelor’s degree from Rhodes College in Memphis, TN. He led Unitarian Universalist music ministry programs in Nashville, Tennessee; Boulder, CO; and Golden, CO. Under his direction, the Jefferson Unitarian Church Choir was invited to represent Colorado in the Washington National Cathedral in 2005, and members of the JUC Choir sang at Carnegie Hall in 2010. At the denominational level, Keith conducted the General Assembly Choir (2001 and 2011) and Singers of the Living Tradition (2007), co-chaired a UU Musicians Network Conference (2005), and served as President of the Association for Unitarian Universalist Music Ministries (2008-2010).
In Colorado, Keith conducted numerous community ensembles, including the Sage Singers GALA Chorus (LGBTQ+ Elder Choir); the One World Singers, a chorus dedicated to promoting understanding through performance of music from many cultures; and in 2011 he founded the Voices of Light Chamber Choir, a chorus dedicated to bringing to life contemporary choral music.
Keith studied Renaissance music in England with Peter Phillips and conducted choirs on tour to Bulgaria, England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Canada, and China.
At All Souls, Keith formed a congregational care choir, “By Your Side Singers,” and conducted the All Souls Choir in a service featuring “Awakening to Blessing,” a Unitarian Universalist Cantata composed by Keith with words by Rev. Wendy Williams.
He has a passion for leading groups in singing, born of family experiences singing with parents and grandparents. Keith and husband David Burrows traveled to India three times, working with the UUA Holdeen India Project to support a residential school for girls in Usgaon, Maharashtra.
