Preparing to Grow Older Successfully: Paying for Elder Care

Join us to equip yourself with knowledge and understanding for your later years. On three consecutive Sundays, March 1, 8 and 15, from 1:00 – 2:30 pm, Silver Souls and Mount Pleasant Village will co-sponsor a three-part educational program addressing issues of particular concern to those of us in our older years, those approaching retirement, and caregivers. Each session will feature an expert in the area and time for Q&A and will cost $10. Register online or pay at the door.

Chris DeYoung, an experienced consultant on senior healthcare issues with the DC Department of Aging and Community Life (DACL) and former director of the Health Insurance Consulting Project at George Washington University Law School, will address the various healthcare insurance programs available to seniors, including Medicare, Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, and long-term care insurance. He will also provide information about the DACL programs and services for seniors.

Prior to joining the Department of Aging in 2019, Chris was the Director of the Health Insurance Counseling Project based at George Washington University Law School’s Community Legal Clinics. Previously, he worked with the Medicare Rights Center and Iona Senior Services, focusing on public policy and community education. Since 2006, he has been working in DC to improve access to affordable health care services for people with Medicare – focusing on expanding eligibility for the Medicare Savings Programs and simplifying enrollment for eligible residents.
