Biography
William, currently based in Washington DC, is a composer of chamber music and a baritone who excels in a wide variety of settings. His music has been described as “pointed and groovy” (New Music Box), garnering praise for its “lyrical personality that is original and strong” (Boston Musical Intelligencer), and for its sophisticated tonal explorations: “solid without being dense, clear without being sparse, and ever-changing without being random” (ibid). As a singer, he specializes in lieder, mélodie, and new music, having premiered dozens of works by living composers in New England and the Mid-Atlantic; he has performed with small and large choirs across the U.S. and on three continents. Currently an instructor at the University of Maryland, Dr. Kenlon also maintains a private studio of budding composers, pianists, and singers. Website: www.williamkenlon.com.
