About Camp Tockwogh
Camp Tockwogh is a YMCA camp on the Chesapeake Bay about two hours from DC. It offers lots of room for kids to run, explore, and play; for adults to relax, learn, and reflect - and for everyone to have fun!
What happens during the weekend?
Friday: Late afternoon settling in and gathering together, pizza dinner, evening vespers service, and singing around a bonfire with s’mores.
Saturday: Morning and afternoon workshops, free time, games and activities, evening talent show, and dance party. Hiking trails, swimming in the pool or Bay, lounging or hiking on the beach. Time to curl up with your journal, sketchpad or a book...and to deepen your friendships within the All Souls community!
Sunday: Morning worship service with Rev. Rob, plus all Camp Tockwogh activities will be open. Hugs and goodbyes.
What is included in the cost?
All sorts of activities! Splash in the swimming pool or swim in the Bay. Play Ultimate Frisbee, basketball, volleyball, softball, tennis, gaga ball, or soccer. Practice archery, play disc golf, or throw horseshoes. Attend workshops led by your fellow All Souls campers, or offer your own! Hike, bike (bring your own), and explore over 300 acres of woods, fields, ponds, and shoreline.
Meals: Five meals included: Friday night pizza, Saturday breakfast, lunch, and dinner; and Sunday breakfast.
Lodging: Five different lodging options are available; details below. For day-trippers and those who choose to sleep elsewhere, we have an “off-siters” option. (Historic Chestertown, MD is a 30-minute drive from camp.)
Registration will open at 12:01 AM on Sunday, April 9. Registration closes on May 20, 2017. Please note that no refunds may be given after May 20, 2017, without special permission from clergy.
Are there additional fees?
Childcare will be available for younger children (under 5) on Saturday morning for $5 per child.
Kayaks may be rented for paddling in the Bay. Prices are yet to be determined.
Accommodation options and costs
Camp Tockwogh’s accommodations are casual and rustic. (You may find some cobwebs!) Since beds feature simple foam mattresses, some campers supplement by bringing “egg carton” or similar camp padding for extra comfort. All on-site options require you to bring your own bed linens (sheets, blankets, and pillows).
Several types of accommodations are available, at varying prices; see below for descriptions and pricing. Most camp housing is shared. Full and partial scholarships are available. View pictures of the camp here.
Cost for children in all accommodation options except Cottages:
Under 3 years of age: free
3-12 years: $105
13-17 years: $120
Off-siters (day-trippers and those staying offsite): $120 per adult
Tent sites (campers bring their own tents): $150 per adult
Pros: You can choose your own spot (within certain guidelines) and have relative privacy in your tent. The tent camping area is conveniently located near the swimming pool and Sharp Dining Hall. Cons: You have to walk through dewy grass to reach the bathroom/shower house.
Rustic Cabins: $180 per adult
Each cabin has 8-12 single bunk beds, with most having a partition dividing the cabin into two rooms. Cabins are roughhewn and unheated, but do have electricity and mattresses. Cabins are usually shared, and you may request specific cabinmates on the registration form. Pros: Most of the cabins are detached, making them relatively quiet. They're conveniently located near the swimming pool and Sharp Dining Hall. Cons: You have to walk through dewy grass to reach the bathroom/shower house. Noise travels through the cabins.
Stewart Lodge: $190 per adult
Stewart Lodge has five dormitory rooms, a living room, and four porches. Dorm rooms are separate, but not entirely private, and have shared bathrooms with two toilets, two sinks, and two showers. Dormitory rooms are shared and lodging is reserved by bed. Please indicate any sharing preferences on the registration form. Pros: You'll have indoor baths. Cons: Stewart is second farthest from the dining hall. Partitions provide privacy but do not shield against noise.
The Tickwogh Conference Center: $200 per adult
(Nope, that’s not a typo; it’s Tickwogh, not Tockwogh.) The Conference Center is air-conditioned and accessible with no steps or level changes on the main floor. It features a cozy wood-paneled great room and has six bedrooms, each with three single beds plus one or two bunk beds and an adjoining private or semi-private bathroom (some shared with the room next door) with two sinks, two showers, and one toilet. Please indicate any room-sharing preferences on the registration form. Doors open onto the wraparound porch (on the main floor) or to the meadow (downstairs). Pros: Tickwogh is the prettiest and plushest of the housing options with semi-private baths, heating, and AC. Cons: It's farthest from the dining hall. Lovely hardwood interior magnifies noise.
Navajo Cottages: $620 per bedroom (with three single beds and private bath)
Cottages feature a front porch, a small living room with fireplace, and three bedrooms. All bedrooms have three single beds, a private bathroom, and a shower. The cost per cottage bedroom is $620 for up to three campers sharing the bedroom, regardless of age. (Children staying in a cottage do not pay an additional child registration fee.) Each cottage also has one or two stowaway cots. Up to two additional people may stay in your bedroom on a space-available basis for an additional $100 each. Please coordinate with your cottage mates if you plan to have more than three people in your room since the number of extra cots is limited. Using the online registration system, the first adult pays the full $620 fee, and up to two other people sharing the room register as non-paying campers. If more than three adults stay in a cottage bedroom, the additional registrants pay $100 each, with a maximum of five campers per cottage bedroom. Pros: Each room has a private bathroom. Cottages are detached and relatively quiet. Cons: Noise travels through the cottage.
