We work to integrate the monthly Wednesday evening vespers service into the life of All Souls and create a vibrant shared ministry community. Vespers is a service of shared meditation, Taizé-style chanting, and reflection. It is followed by an informal social gathering in Pierce Hall. We need help with planning, ushering, setting up, providing food, and music making. Vespers music rehearsals take place immediately before the services, from 6:00 to 6:45 pm.
Founded 36 years ago by Ysaye Barnwell, formerly of Sweet Honey in the Rock, the Jubilee Singers use music to promote social justice, healing, love, and ecology. Our repertoire includes spirituals, gospel, blues, jazz, anthems, and music from around the world. We typically sing two services at All Souls Church on the second Sunday of the month, and an average of once a month at community events throughout the Washington metropolitan area.
The Children’s Choir exposes children to singing, integrates music into the CRE curriculum, provides music for the Children’s Chapel, and occasionally performs in the Sanctuary and at other venues.
Singing a diverse collection of music from all traditions, the All Souls Choir provides music leadership on the first and third Sundays of the month. Just show up on a Thursday and we’ll welcome you, or contact Jen.
We work to build, strengthen, and diversify All Souls’ Music Ministry; support concerts and events; publicize the Ministry’s activities; and support staff. Current projects include building community within/among the choirs and developing a presence on social media. We invite new members to help us represent the congregation in our work.
