All Souls Leadership Course: Developing Skills for a New Era 2017

The Vision: The All Souls Leadership Course is designed to explore leadership through an intentional process of transformative discussions and workshops thereby securing and strengthening the future of our congregation as we Build the Beloved Community. All Souls’ vitality will be enriched as participants draw on their experiences in the program to step confidently into leadership and action, provide guidance to other emerging leaders and serve as a bridge to learning with future leadership program cohorts.

The Need: As a growing, thriving UU congregation in DC, All Souls is blessed with diverse, talented members of all ages and stages in life. All Souls conducts itself through committees and working groups that convene to support and sustain the life of the church and to engage with the larger community and the world through activism. The dramatic growth we have experienced in the last decade has resulted in a congregation that needs to purposefully engage leadership from its newer members even as we continue to rely on a core group of long-time members. This evolution represents an exciting opportunity to develop a culture of leadership within the congregation and to identify and prepare new lay leaders.

The Program: During six Saturday sessions from February through April, participants will be exposed to new perspectives and innovative ideas in leadership, engage in transformative reflections and collaborative explorations, and forge and strengthen relationships with other participants as well as with other members of the congregation The program will provide an outlet for emerging and current leaders to foster their own self-expression and spiritual practice.

The program will call on ASC’s most talented and experienced members to facilitate each session - people who are known as leaders in their own fields and who are often sought after for their advice and counsel. It will also call upon staff and resources from ASC and the UUA as well as outside experts. The program will employ a variety of methodologies with a special emphasis on interactive experiences as well as working in small groups and pairs. Readings and other learning resources will be provided. Throughout the program participants will be made aware of current and future leadership opportunities and be encouraged to explore them.
